Lately I've been thinking about what I want to do in the summer, to keep artistically active. I have a bunch of small canvases and canvas boards I want to paint and give away or display in my new place, I want to make more duct tape wallets to sell for extra cash, I want to draw portraits every week, including a self portrait challenge using old photos, and I have ideas for photo-shoots about the human body.
Shoulder Blades:
I want to take black and white photos of shoulder blades on a nude back with various levels of sticking out. Some shoulder blades stick out more than others, and I want to do a series showing how they are all beautiful. Ideally, I will have models that are visually underweight, average and overweight all represented equally.
Collarbones:
To go to the other side of the body, I want to look at collarbones on various individuals. The curves and shadows of the collarbone can be quite sexual, and I want to explore and test this idea. Again with wanting models of varying weight to see if that is part of the sex equation, and in different levels of stress and motion with the muscles around and close to the collarbone.
bed-head portraits:
I want to explore the notion of "putting my face on"; that idea that girls can't leave the house without looking in the mirror to see if they look alright. I do it myself, every single day, and I hope to capture beauty in my models without them brushing their hair, or teeth, or putting a bra on before getting their picture taken.
Thighs and Knees:
I did a drawing assignment in First Year that involved abstraction, but the pose of the figure in my drawing has captivated me and I want to re-create it in photographic form with different individuals. It was basically a picture of the thighs and downwards, with the arms in there as well. It was an odd angle, but I see it as a challenge, to create a photograph that holds the same sense of mystery and beauty as the pose does in my sketches.
One-Night Stand:
Many young people, and especially those who party, have experienced the one night stand, or come very close to it, including myself. And we know the shame you feel the next morning when you realize that you may have made a big mistake. I want to do a series of photos representing the reality of a one night stand, without alluring the audience with the sex. I want to show the shame, and general disregard women especially, feel after having a one night stand, especially if it was their first time having sex or being intimate.
Alice in Wonderland:
It just came out, and I loved it and am proud of my Uncle's company for getting that contract and want to do two things about it. 1) Paint an original movie poster and send it to my uncle's studio in Ontario and 2) Do a photo-shoot with my out hand-made outfits and such. An Alice themed shoot, without all of the sexualization of Alice and the humanizing of the animal characters.
So those are my ideas for the summer. I will also hopefully be working full time and such, so I will have to make time for this stuff.

End of term
It's close to the end of the term now, and there is lots do do. Much writing and drawing and printing in my future over the next few weeks, as well as lots of working so I can afford to move out at the end of April.
Right now I am looking for an artist to analyze critically for Art History, and not knowing who to pick.
I also have to write 500-750 words in the style of Woolf or Joyce, so that will also be a challenge.
After that, its another writing piece, but a post-modern one, and I'm not sure yet what the requirements are.
And then a recipe in the style of Kurt Vonnegut and explanatory essay about the literary styles of him I used.
And a t-shirt print of the horse jumping sequence that I need to flesh out in Photoshop with my boyfriends tablet this weekend, and a propaganda poster, and a collage about a passage from a book. All screen printed.
And finally, a body of works that display technical drawings of musical instruments with a background that gives them personality. All done by April 16th. That's one month. Jeez, that is a lot to do.

Old School Video Games
Anyone still play games on their Sega, N64 or gameboy?
I do.
I recently watched my boyfriend beat Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We had a lot of fun playing through the game and trying (and failing) not to get lazy enough to use the walkthrough. haha. I also still play all the old pokemon games for the 64: Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium 1 + 2, and Hey You Pikachu. They still rock, despite glitchy graphics.
I also still have my old Sega, which I got back from my father's garage this past Christmas. Unfortunately, I forgot a cable or something at my Dad's, because I'm missing one now. *sad face* I was really looking forward to playing Power Rangers and The Lion King.
And as for the Gameboy, I still have my old Colour (a rad see-through purple one), and all the first two generations of Pokemon. My boyfriend owns a few of the third generation ones and the remake of the first gen, and I've been playing those more recently on his DS. This summer I am giving my Gameboy Colour (semi) permanently to my boyfriends little sister in Brazil when we visit. I may love it too much to let you keep it forever, but maybe until the time after this one that we visit? *lovelovelove*

Display of my Art
I hope this weekend is going well for all. I've got a lot of things going on this week. Drawing assignments and Screen Printing assignments are due on Friday, an exam on Wednesday. Also, I got a call about my missing cat and I need to go to another part of town to put posters up. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow, before Creative Writing.
The page for today just has a list of hours on it, for some store that I don't remember, and for time in the print Studio. I can't think of anything interesting to write about it, so I'll post the pictures of my art I mentioned in my last post.
The first is my piece entitled Morbid Mobile. The second is a portrait of male Japanese Singer, Miyavi, titled Gender Bender. Tell me what you think? Do you want to see more of my work?

Music
Today's post is about music. I work in the Slide Library of my University's Fine Art department, and I edit the slides/files so they have a uniform look to them and there is minimal dirt on them. The professors use these images in their presentations and for class assignments. I like working here, as I get to see a lot of art by people I didn't know before. But anyways, the music related part of this, is GrooveShark.
Grooveshark is my savior at work. You just type in an artist name and they show you everything they have on them, and you can just listen to them all without having to go back to it all the time. Currently, my playlist consists of Mariana's Trench, Faber Drive, Reliant K, the GazettE and Linkin Park.

Another CD track list I raided from my step-dads vast collection. Matchbox 20 are a unique band, and I like them. Not as interesting as Barenaked Ladies, but thats a hard one to beat. :]

I LOVE this album by Jann Arden. "Waiting in Canada" and "Cherry Popsicle" are both amazing songs.

Project 3 - Morbid Mobile

Project 4 - Miyavi Portrait?
I enjoyed working on these two projects last term. My morbid mobile is a baby mobile over a crib, but it has a dead mouse, a cat skull, a severed finger and a "lucky" rabbits foot. The assignment was to put an object where it does not belong, and talk about the new relationship created from this juxtaposition. Mine was about the desensitization of children at an early age. Media and the public no longer protect our kids from the dangers of the world, from the horrible things they are too young to be learning about. Young kids should not hear about rape and murder and ways to torture another living thing. They should be kept innocent for as long as possible. Allow them to enjoy their childhood for what it is, before breaking their hearts with the "real world."
I'll post the picture of it in my next post, when I am at home and able to take a picture of it.
The Miyavi portrait, I chose to do for our self directed assignment. The only rule was a minimum size and it had to have an element of high contrast. I will also upload a picture of this when I post next.
I got a grade of 85 on both assignments in my final folio, which is good considering how many issues I have with the professor.
Today's Events:
I'm working while waiting for my screens to dry to I can finish cleaning them. They were getting stained from use, and apparently the glue holding the screen fabric on can sometimes drip onto the screen after many uses, and it either attracts emulsion or repels it. In my case, it was repelling the emulsion, and when I was exposing my images, the emulsion was washing away in certain spots. Unfortunately I could not reposition my image to not have a drip in it, so I'm having to do a 2 coat cleaning process.
don't know what the chemicals are, but I put the first one on over 1.5 ours ago and it's still not dry. It will probably take another hour to dry, then I can put the second chemical on, and wash it off almost immediately.
Also, my cat is still missing. I got a horrible prank call about her on Monday that made me cry with it's content. The caller told me my cat had been hit by a truck and it was a big mess. What a horrible person to want to upset a stranger for loving an animal enough to put up posters when they go missing. I hung up on him, and his friend called back a few minutes later to apologize. It didn't make me feel any better. I don't know who either of them are, but I hate them for making me picture my cat as a squishes pile on the road in front of a McDonald's.
That is all for today. I have to get back to work. I've been typing in between images.

Cheap Date Ideas
I meant to post this on Tuesday, but my cat went missing while I was at school, and I've spent most of my time since then looking for her. Still no luck. I've called every pet store and shelter in the area, and no luck.
But here is my second instalment of my notebook writing.
Front:

- indoor picnic (push the table and chairs out of the way, and set up in the living room on a blanket)

- ice skating rink (outdoor)
- local bands or concerts
- open houses (my boyfriend and I have been wanting to do this for a long time. It's a good opportunity for some role play)
- psychic reading

- bubble bath and full body massage
- planetarium
- dress rehearsal for musical or play (cheaper tickets, for the same thing)
- volunteer together (animal shelter, public events, etc)
- draw each other (and compare results)
- gym day pass
- dream vacation planning

When I went to Newfoundland in the summer to see my mom and step-dad's new home, I went looking through his extensive CD collection. I burned many of them onto my external harddrive, but some of them kep showing up as unknown, since it could not connect to the internet. I'd started writing out the track list and everything, before I remembered I could just google that information and download them.

Todays event:
I should be in Screen Printing today, but my back has been hurting a lot, and I'm still hoping that my kitty will come home. I'm still pretty mad at my landlord, but it's not completely his fault and being angry won't help.
Here's what happened. On Tuesday night, my boyfriend got a text from our landlord asking if we went downstairs into his apartment earlier that day, because his door was open and the dogs were in the backyard, and the door between our apartments was also opened. He looked for our cat when we asked, and he couldn't find her. Luckily, our roommate had her car that day, and we all left class early to go home and see what was going on. We couldn't find the cat either. That night, and every day since then, we have walked the streets calling her name, and put up posters at educational and food establishments as well as fence posts near our home. I think the dog's scared her off, and she's found somewhere to hide for a while. She is not an outdoor cat, and I am worried about her. If anyone has any tips on how to find her, please comment and tell me.

A Page from My Notebook
I've always wanted to keep a blog. Not just a "what I did today" blog, because I suck at keeping those. But recently I've been thinking about things I write down in my everyday life. And I usually write them in a handy coil-bound note book I keep in my purse/bag.
So to get me going with this whole blog thing, I will begin blogging about 1 page of my notebook(front and back) in each entry.
This particular notebook has kept my notes since this summer. I usually write no dates in here, and mostly just open it to a random page and write. So they are in no particular order.

The first page is my Flight Plan for going to Newfoundland, Canada this past summer to visit my mom. For those of you who don't know me, I am currently living in British Columbia, Canada.

I bawled my eyes out the entire way out of the theatre/mall to the car. She is such a beautiful baby, and I wish very badly that I could have been there for her and her mom.

I explored Cosmo's website while talking to my boyfriend on MSN, and wrote down some of their "Cheap Date Ideas".
In no particular order, heres what I liked:
- bike ride in park (with a picnic lunch)
- baseball game (maybe not major league, to keep it "cheap")
- yard sale hunting (in richer communities for the best stuff. :])
- rollerskating
- fruit picking at a U-Pick farm.
- drive-in movie
- bookstore bonding

- go to a carnival
- Restaurant.com for current deals and specials in your area
- chocolate/candy factory tour
- hauntedhouse.com or scary movies
- cook favourite dinners together
- pot luck with another couple
- petting zoo
- go to a flea market
- play 20 Questions, and write them down before hand
- go to an art gallery (or even better, art gallery opening)

Today celebrates the first day of OutWeek on my University campus, and perhaps all across Canada. The Rainbow flag was raised, and speeches were given from a few school communities in support of the LGBTQ community. My roommate designed a rad t-shirt to sell this week for the Pride Centre.
